I am a retired trucker with 53 years, and over 4 million miles of accident free driving 18's cross country, and later tri-state area.
My list of interest in videos and photography includes Railroads, Great Lakes shipping, Classic and Antique cars, trucks, and construction equipment. I started videos in the mid 70's with a Kodak 8mm sound movie camera. Then graduated to a VHS camcorder mid 80's, then Digital 8 since about 96. Now I have gone with a HD Camcorder, but
since all the good stuff has disappeared, not much reason to go out anymore.
At the moment, I'm restoring, and showing our 1985 Mack Superliner. My wife and I are enjoying every minute that we drive this big beauty. God has blessed us with good health, a wonderful family at Journey By Grace Church. For life changing messages, ua-cam.com/channels/Z5daKxokximUiSFN5wkN3A.html
I want to thank all my subscribers, and I hope I can continue to give you videos NEW and old that everyone can enjoy. Thank you. Jack

Amtrak still had to commit to their contract with Expresstrak for moving perishables, but that ended in 2006. Locations are on the Pittsburgh Mainline at Pack Saddle mp298.3, Gray Station mp 302 both...

Thanks for watching this little clip on the Monongahela Railway. Those hard working GP38's sure sound good. We see MGA, P&LE, and Conrail GP38's all pitching in. I included Google maps of the location so you can get an idea of the tricky curves these trains have to negotiate. These clips were filmed in 1989 with a Panasonic VHS camera, and the location was in Brownsville and West Brownsville, P...

To me--- the SOO will ALWAYS have the red and white paint, with the large black letters. Absolutely stunning!!!
Thanks for sharing!
It would've been even more unbelievable, if one of the GP7s leading happened to have been one of the former UP GP7s that CNW rostered. 4104 and 4105 were originally UP 140 and 144 respectively. Ironically most of these GP7s, including 4107 here was one of many CNW units that made it into UP's roster in 1995. 84 out of 109 GP7s numbered 4100-4209 to be exact.
Hey jack, do you happen to have a northeast corridor clip of Glendale Maryland? The grade crossing or any other grade crossing?
Sorry. No I do not have any clips at Glendale, and no grade crossing on the NEC as well. I don't recall seeing any clips out there. Never gave it much thought back then.
any grade crossing action along the NEC? and do you know any body who has video footage or pictures?
Any grade crossing action along the nec?
Always great seeing videos like these. While seeing Mainline railroads are action packed, shortline and regional railroads have jems like these. Thanks!
This was before G&W acquired the Utah Railway in 2002. NREX 2033 is an ex-Illinois Central unit still in patched IC colors.
To bad The Lackawanna got tangled up with the Erie.
I would love to see any videos you have of Chessie train 396/397 anywhere from 1977-1985. Amazing footage.
Caught a good many. They are probably scattered in a lot of my Chessie clips
0:10 that is used in trainz 3
Some of The Remaining HR616's were sent to NRE to be rebuilt with a different engine and reused as a purge fleet but that never happened
Go to 3:19 for the phase 5a lashup
Lost count of all the times that railroads have tried to throw Cat diesel engine blocks in locomotives......and fail miserably every time. Cat engines, plain and simple, couldn't stand up to the abuse of railroad life. An engineer friend of mine got one of the NS PR43C engines once, and there were literal engine parts laying on the walkways from being thrown out of the exhaust stack!
Thành you veruly muck
If ES58ACi had an EPA Tier 4 version you would have seen them running this route Seattle-Boston/Port Newark,NJ by splitting at Cleveland,OH for the climb over the Appalachian Mountains in Altoona Pennsylvania.
The early years of NS feel like a completely different railroad than it does now
Definitely unique. And like every other attempt at putting a Cat engine in a locomotive, it was a complete failure!
that m5 has to be the best sounding horn I've ever heard, wow
Nice catch on BNSF 9647!
Awesome catches Jack! The Appalachian & Ohio retired the SD50s and ex-BAR units, and the A&O once leased SD90MACs from CEFX. Currently, A&O uses leased GMTX GP38s and GP40s. The SD50s and ex-BAR units went to other Watco operations when Watco sold the A&O, and the SD90MACs were returned to the lessor. The CEFX units were 125, 130, 133, and 144. This was taken back when Watco owned the Appalachian and Ohio.
Nice video Jack! This mining railroad was later abandoned.
During this time, Amtrak was leasing F40s to freight railroads, most notably, NS and UP during this time. The F40s were starting to become surplus while new P42s were entering service to supplement the P40s.
156, 809, and 45 lead this train back west, while 130, 144, and 194 lead this train eastbound to DC from LA.
HEY! That's my gal! Good ole 108!
I grew up at (what is likely) the origin point of many of those boxcars. CN owned the line to Cochrane, at the time. They had 2-3 GP9s pull the train and do the switching outside the paper mill. Ah that sound... 🙂
0:14 BNSF Chillicothe Sub horn
Thanks for not actually showing how to remove it
Do you care if I use this train for an edit
great video, Jack!!
Great video, brought back a lot of my childhood memories.
I see that some of the roblox locos have that kind of horn type from Rocky Mountains division RO-scale.
25 years now. 6/1/24
9:16 how did a Seaboard air line unit find it's way onto a B&O line lol. It's far from home rails. I know this was 35 years ago, but you saw an ex SAL GP40. I think that's pretty rare considering the fact I don't think there was a lot of them left in the early years of CSX. 6675 is ex SAL 603, and it's one of SALs oldest GP40s.
This would be perfect for a train themed horror movie
The U34CH seen in the video would later be preserved. EL #3372 is currently under operational restoration under URHS of NJ ownership. I wish EL #3372 and FEC #148 could reunite someday
Those 100 ton cars look like they are loaded just a smidgen over 100 tons.
Man I love these old good day trains
I like mack coe and trains
I videos are several years old, but i love ❤️ the big power plants that carry the loads across ❤ those passes thank you for sharing sir my compliments
Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for watching.
CSX should have just kept the Chessie System paint scheme.
I agree 100%. Thanks for watching.
Thrilling, historic and action-packed pick-me-up for rail fans, especially nec lovers and riders. My best use of two and 3 /4 minutes in long time!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for watching.
Do you think these are the same whistles used on earlier electric locomotives such as gg1,milw ep2 bipolars, etc.
Probably are. The New Haven had them on lots of their locomotives. SCL also used them, NYC had some RS3's with them. They were made by Hancock.
Thank you so much for this...especially the Elizabeth footage. My grandparents lived next to the tracks very close to the old Wylie station. Great memories. BTW, is that station building still there? Haven't been to Elizabeth since 1990.
Here in SWPA we used to have these and the Conrail power and now we’re stuck with those lame CSX and NS paint schemes

The sound of these EMD locomotives reminds me of the Irish A class Metropolitan Vickers locomotives after these were rebuilt with EMD engines. I recall how on a sultry summer day the sound of such an engine would carry on the air.
Them's was the days Jack!
Your not kidding. Wish we could go back. Much better times.
